DJ Varner Story took an interest in dance music in the mid-90's after first being exposed to the club scene. Hearing the extended versions of popular tracks along with the infectious sounds of European Hi NRG inspired him to begin collecting remixes. Initially influenced by the work of Almighty Records, Motiv8, Soul Solution, and Dancing Divaz, he continued to collect music before learning how to beat match and DJ.
As dance music shifted in the United States from European influences like Livin' Joy, La Bouche, The Real McCoy, and Ace of Base to a more urban/hip-hop influence, Varner continued searching for music abroad that had a happier vibe to bring his dancefloors euphoric nights filled with energetic sounds.
Varner eventually played gigs and held residencies at a variety of bars and clubs throughout Virginia and the District of Columbia including Private Eyes (Norfolk, VA), Godfrey's (Richmond, VA), The Hunt Club (Alexandria, VA), Club X (Washington, DC), and The Green Lantern (Washington, DC). Additionally, he has spun for many special events including DC Capital Pride and Wilton Manors Pride (FL).
Varner continues to mix music focusing on eclectic compilations designed to make you move. His philosophy is simply to play music that makes you feel good. Repetitive pots n' pans banging in a warehouse are something you definitely will not get from him. He will go a little heavier or darker with his beats on occasion, but usually there is a sugary sweet center to the song that will have the crowd wanting for more.
His sets will usually include domestic chart toppers, European NRG, and hints of angelic trance. Additionally, he is sure to include retrospective hits of the past that are sure to evoke nostalgia on the dance floor -- Judy Cheeks, Rozalla, Juliet Roberts, Hannah Jones.
His favorite artists currently include acts like Kylie Minogue, The Saturdays, and Cascada, and his favorite remixers include 7th Heaven, Freemasons, and Cahill.
